Default Starting over

Decided not to drill the 72 Gal bowfront I got a "deal" on a few weeks ago. I still do not have an internal overflow box for it and they cost around $150 plus the cost of the drill bits. So....I went to town and bought another tank. Of course a bigger one(with my wifes permission. I LOVE her) Now I have a tank and stand for sale and oh, yes the light I
bought for it also. Everything else I bought will work just fine on my second new tank.

The point is now that I have spent many hours reading, talking, going to stores and just
plain researching the subject I made some major mistakes before I even got water in the tank. It has cost me $$$ and some pride. For those people that are new to reef tank
hobby like myself, please heed this warning and do diligent reasearch before buying, building and maintaining a reef tank. This weekend I will be setting up my new tank with all the compatable parts instead of trying to manufacture everything to save a few bucks.
Lesson Learned. JIM

GOOD ADVICE !!!

Doing research is what I did (6 months of it) before I changed my freshwater into saltwater I'm glad I did

I would have to second that myself. I never had a tank of any kind before my brother gave me his 90g. OH, the money i have lost. It is much better to do your homework and then start. Getting thrown in on the deep end of this hobby can cost you a bundle. And it has!

Default New 90 Gal tank

Hey you guys probably already know that All Glass Aquariums now owns Oceanic and there will be no more Oceanics available. I went to the store to buy an oceanic cause
I am led to believe that this is a very good tank. They didnt have exactly what I wanted
in stock and told me the above senario. I could have gotton Oceanic but didnt think this being my fist tank I wanted more than a 90 gal to get started. This reef tank thing is looking to be quite a challenge. JIM

Default addiction

Just come to terms with it Jim, the sooner the better you are an addict like the rest of us. Don't think that research is gonna save you money either. time and aggravation and worry yes, the money pit is neverending in this hobby. We do it and spend the last of our disposable(and nondisposable ) incomes on our beloved reefs; telling our loved ones and convincing even ourselves just this last 5 stage RO/DI with flsuh valve and in-line TDS meter, or wow, look at that Euroreef skimmer on sale for $350 that's supposed to be the best, etc. I promise it's the LAST thing I'll get honey... til next month when you want those dual 250 MH lamps so you can get a tridacnid clam down the road, and so on and so forth----you love it, we all love it, just strap yourself in and enjoy the ride
