Default It Can Only Get Better, Right???

I did not expect to be posting my first 'mishap' story so soon...but I can't NOT share this one...So here goes.

As some of you read in my introduction, my mom gave me and my partner a 55G. She said it was just too big for her place. So, we get the tank home, and I clean it up and all that good stuff. We buy a stand and other equipment to get ready to cycle and we're ready to GO! This past weekend, it dawned on me that my mom hadn't actually set this tank up, we decide to test the tank for leaks. We fill up the tank, little by little, checking each 5 gallon section for leaks. So far, so good. We get the tank completely filled without incident. We add the live sand, plug in the filter, let it run for another 45 minutes. Let's go get some live rock to put in there...Ok, lets. My partner goes outside to start the car while I run get something out of the kitchen...*GUSH* I suddenly hear the sound of rapidly flowing water. I run into the dining room only to see water pouring from the side of the tank...I'm screaming for my partner to come back in the house, while scrambling to get my buckets to catch what hasn't already fallen to the floor. My beautiful hardwoods!! Well...After cleaning that up, We were both visibly disappointed, so we found a 55G set up on Craigslist. (Yeah, I know I probably could have just sealed that tank back up, but it was already an older tank, I was afraid it would burst again, while we weren't home...better safe than sorry at this level of know how)..Long story short, we went to the guys house, got the tank (He had it filled, to show us there were no leaks or anything) Got it home and set up, and we are now cycling...

Man, an reefer's worst nightmare in action! Glad to hear you found another 55g and it is now cycling though.

Oh you just don't know...I think my heart hit the bottom of my stomach as the water hit the floor...I was just sure this was the end of my reefing before I even started. But I am more determined than ever now! LOL

Glad to hear that you didn't let your first setback stop you, because you will have future setbacks as well. Hopefully, not to the same scale though. Take your time and go slow and hopefully you can avoid having another setback for a long while. I dreaded having both of my last two 220 gallon tanks failing shortly after setting them up, but thankfully (knock on wood) it hasn't happened.
