Default Cycling a tank - skimmer and LR question

Right now my tank has been running for 8 days. I've added 38 Lbs of LR so far. Hope to bump it up another 20 lbs on tuesday. I was wondering though, when I should expect my skimmer to start collecting foam. Also, how long is it before you usually start seeing any regrowth on the LR?

the skimmer could take a good week or longer to break-in before you'll see the foam. as your cycle ends you'll see some color reappearing to your live rock.. time is key with this hobby

Please give us more details such as tank size, if you have an overflow w/sump, brand/model skimmer, lighting

My tank is a 75 gallon. I have a Emperor 400 HOB filter and a seaclone 150 skimmer. I also have two maxi-jet 1200 powerheads and one maxi-jet 900. My SG is at 1.024. Typically how long does the cycling process take if using LR only to cycle. Thanks.

Sorry to disapoint, but you'll see little if any "foam" out of your seaclown.

I found out after buying the Seaclone skimmer that it had many poor reviews. I would agree that it has not been the most user friendly. It is very hard to adjust. I bought a much better air adjustment valve and replaced the valve that came with the skimmer. With a little adjustment over a day I am now getting a very good foam production in the cup. It is doing well now. I have noticed some life on my LR now. At night I have noticed several tube worms and a worm that is flat with legs or points down each side. It is about a 1/16th of an inch wide and extended out of its hole about 3/4". Does anyone know what type of worm this might be.

hard to say without pictures what the worms are...

but if your cycling with just the live rock, I'd guess 4 weeks tops for your cycle before you could add some snails or crabs for the start of your clean up crew

What types of snails and crabs are the best to get first after your cycle as a clean-up crew? I have gotten a lot of brown algea on my rocks and sand in the last few days. What would help with this? Thanks for all the help so far.
