There is more information out there than you can imagine. Noted authors? Martin Moe Jr, Albert Thiel, Julian Sprung, John H. Tullock, just to name a few. Websites? I'll give you a few:
Aquarticles articles about fish and aquariums
Thiel Book - Table of Contents
Beginner Saltwater FAQ: Setup
About Saltwater Aquariums - Reef Tanks
REEF JANITORS FOR REEF AQUARIUMS
The about.com has hundreds of links all over their site...they even offer salt 101 for beginners...kind of an online 1 week class
good luck!

Websites - There are many forums that you can use to ask questions and keep up with the latest methods. The best on-line magazines that I check out monthly are Home - Reefkeeping Magazine Online and Advanced Aquarist's Online Magazine - Advanced Aquarist's Online Magazine

A good list of books are listed at The Reef Tank- An Online Community of Reef Hobbyists

Not every LFS is just out to make a quick buck.

Back to the books, Apractical Guide to Corals or the Reef Aquarium. One of the best books on needs of various corals.
