hi there. kinda new to this, my tank has been cycling for 2 weeks. i noticed some small brown algae growths and it seems to be getting worse. is this normal? maybe a good sign?

Every tank is different and it all depends on what you have in your tank right now. A clean up crew would be a great start. Pay half attention to LFS and more to what's going on in your tank and to what advice others give here. LFS have been known to steer people wrong in order to get a profit. Reason I say to listen to people here is that experience speaks volumes louder than a promo line some LFS uses to make his paycheck bigger.
Above all be patient. Nothing happens over night, especially in a salt water tank.
Ask all the questions you need, becuase that's the only way to learn right? Keep up the good work and write a journal down of your water levels each time you test. That will help you know when things become steady in your tank.

Hi TeeJay

Coaral Beauty Angels prefer brown algae. Mine eats it off the glass and rock when ever it appears. Sometimes reducing lightng right now would be good idea. Also what is your water flow in the tank?
