Default Suggestions please

I have a tomato clown what would be a good second fish to add for a 50 gal tank that won't be too much trouble for me a rookie?

Personally, I'd get your tomato clown a mate. What kind of setup do you want to end up with -- Reef, Fish only with live rock (FOWLR) or Fish Only? It'll make a difference in your selection of fishes. If you want to get invertebrates, then you have to be careful that the fishes do not "dine" on their tankmates.

I have a tomato clown and I love it. It isn't as aggressive as my common clowns. Super easy going. You could get a tank mate, but you might want to think of what other fish you want in their first just in case they get territorial. Royal grammas are nice, clown gobies are super peaceful, firefish are nice, as well.
