Default Lionfish?

is there anyway i can set up like a 30 gallon tank with a little live rock, live sand and keep a volitan lionfish (just one) and not have to use any kind of high output lighting? i was thinking a shallow sand bed (4 inches or so), 20 or so pounds of live rock and a clean up crew with regular fluorescent (actinic) lighting. any thoughts//suggestions//input is well appreciated.

basically a FOWLR tank as reefs i've found are rather expensive.

I was growing to do the same thing with my 30 gallon till I was told that the lion fish are deadly poisonous to people who are allergic to bee stings.

I don't see a problem with doing that with a 30 gallon just make sure you have a good filter so the lack of live sand/live rock wont effect the quality of the water.

Good luck with the fish.

i was thinking a 4 stage filter. think a skimmers necessary?

i'm not too concerned about the severity of the stings as i don't plan on petting it...
seriously i don't think i'll have to worry about the venom. i'm sure its a little more painful than my sebae anemone but i'll manage. thanks.

btw anyone know the extent of the lighting necessary? 1-3 watts per gallon?

I personally don't thank a skimmer will be necessary, 30 gallon tanks are on the borderline for a skimmer.
