Default Mixing Substrates

Hi. I am trying to do a rehaul albeit slowly of my 55 gallon. I already have crushed coral, and i have a pretty large Cinnamon Clown, who likes to just move this coral like she owns it! I wanted to add some live sand to the crushed coral...is this a no-no? I had asked the local pet shop ( not so local actually ) and the person I talked with said he did not see a real problem with this. I would appreciate everyone's input about this.

I'd get rid of the crushed coral all together. It simply isn't used any longer. Since the CC has a larger particle size, you'll find that the sand will find its' way over time through it. Not only that, any & all detritus will make it's way into the CC similar to the way it does in a fresh water tank. If you have live rock, the rock should go in first so it's on a stable base & then back fill with the sand. This will keep any burrowing fish from toppling your aquascaping as they dig.
