For a 55 gallon tank, I'd suggest a mag drive 5 return pump, if it turns out to be to much flow it can be throttled back a touch with no problems.

As for a skimmer, Euro Reef RS-80 (extruded acrylic version is $179.99 at marine depot) or an ASM g2

I think those would be good some good choices, Lets see what others think and what advice they have

If its the kit where it is designed for your particular sump tank then yeah go for it.. Otherwise home depot or lowes has acrylic sheets, you can get the scoring tool and make your own baffles...

Get your pump and skimmer first.

Take note of the skimmers height and foot-print, so you'll know what kinda room you'll have in sump, and also if it will fit under your tank in the stand..

I think a 20long would be better then a 20 high, you should have the room under the 55's stand

Using the 20 long will give you more room for a baffle design and room for the skimmer and return pump with room to get your hands in there...

I have a picture of my 20 long in the equipment section, the post is "explaining sumps and refugiums"
