Default Phosphates????

Hi All,

Is there a good way to reduce phosphate levels in the tank. I know that water changes will do so.....I do monthly water changes to the tank. I know of phosguard as well, just wanted to see if there was a way to do it without adding chemicals.........

Thanks,
Java

Java,

We should try to determine where the phosphates are coming from first and that could also decide a plan to get rid of them or lower them at the least...

What are your tank's fish/inverts, etc.. ??

How often do you clean out that canister filter?

How often and heavy are you feeding?

How many gallons do you do for your water changes? Weekly would be best for you (5 gallons)

RO/DI water ??

Chemical Wise for treatment, a phosban reactor with "phosban" would help remove the phosphates..

The Canister gets checked once a month. Once in the evening and on the weekends once in the morning and once in the evening. The monthly water change is 25%. I have black and white stripe dottyback, bi-color blenny, orange spotted goby, firefish, orange skunk, 2 scarlet hermit crabs and a cleaner shrimp. I do water changes with RO. 4 carpet mushrooms. That should round out the inventory.
