Default Coral rock usage

From years past I have coral rock that was used in my fish only tank for decoration. My thought was to use some (.5 lbs per gal) of the (dead) coral rock as a base and only add 1 lb per gal of live rock.

1, Is it OK to put coral rock in the tank? (I heard it could be a problem)
2, Will good quality coral rock become live rock over time in a tank?
3, Am I better off using 1.5 lbs per gal of live rock and no coral rock?

Tank is not setup yet.
65 gal
Soft corals, crew, few fish
skimmer

No problem using it for base rock. It will become live rock after about 60 - 90 days. If you have it you might as well use it. I had some old live rock that was dead & have since used it to set up a couple nano cubes.

Would the use of live sand help this transformation process?

You will get bateria to grow in the sand as well. It won't speed it up any.

Thats funny I would think it would speed it up as the base rock would be getting 'attacked' by the bacteria from two different places.
