Default Brand new newbie...thinking of buying this setup...

Brand new newbie...thinking of buying this setup...Can you guys help me out and tell me if this is a good deal or not.

Also what I might need to add?

The tank is a 72 gallon Oceanic Reef-Ready glass bowfront aquarium. The tank is drilled and has a single Mega-Flow overflow (offset a little to the left from center). The stand has a single tinted curved glass door. The tank trim and stand are black.

The original Oceanic Sump is included. The sump holds the ViaAqua 3600 main return pump and the ASM G-2 protein skimmer. The skimmer uses a needle wheel pump and works great.

The canopy is wood (painted black to match the stand) was custom built I built the canopy to support the light fixture. The lighting is a Sunlight Supply TEK-Light 36" T5 fixture that can hold 6 bulbs. The unit has two power switches and cords to control the center 2 bulbs and the outer 4 bulbs independently. This works great for a dawn/dusk setup.

I've got an extra RO/DI filter system, so I'm including that. It's made by WaterGeneral. I'm also including some various other small equipment such as the a heater, net, hydrometer and some salt.

The tank has about 120lbs of live rock and 80lbs of live sand. The rock is from Fiji, Tonga and Marshall Islands. The fish in the tank include a large Blue Hippo Tang, Ocellaris Clown fish, a Bicolor pseudochromis. The corals in the tank include a bunch of purple mushrooms, a branching hammer coral (with three heads), several stalks of Xenia, a mat of green star polyps and several polyps growing on the rocks. There is also a maze brain coral and a small green hairy mushroom.

Here is a simple list of everything included:

- 72 Gallon Glass Oceanic Bowfront Reef-Ready w/ overflow
- Black stand with tinted curved glass door
- Black Custom Built Canopy
- Oceanic Sump
- ASM G-2 Protein Skimmer w/ needle wheel pump
- ViaAqua 3600 submersible pump
- Heater
- Sunlight Supply TEK-Light 36" T5 Fixture (6 bulbs)
- WaterGeneral RO/DI Filter
- Hydrometer
- Net
- Salt

Livestock
- ~80lbs Live Sand
- ~120lbs Live Rock
- Xenia (several stalks)
- Maze Brain Coral
- Hammer Coral (branching, 3 heads)
- Purple mushrooms
- Green hairy mushroom
- Green Star Coral
- Various Polyps (on the rocks)
- 1 Clownfish
- 1 Blue Hippo Tang
- 1 Coral Banded Shrimp
- 1 Bicolor Pseudochromis

Thanks

if it already comes with live stock i would be kinda leary about it. I prefer to build my tank from nothing. but ya know its up to you. All the equipment looks fine imho but again If you choose your fish yourself then you will actually become attached to them. they won't jsut be eye candy.

That is true, but I think it would be a great starter and there are not really that many fish in it at this point.

Here is another used one I have been thinking about.

Call for info. Great for office, waiting room, or even your own living room. I will teach the basic know-how to run this tank and keep all tankmates happy. Great hobby and this tank is ready for adding amazing tankmates. This is one of the best and easiest saltwater setups. Corals and live rock growing great, cureently fragging and trading coral and will frag more on request. !! !! !! !! !! 80 gallon tank, 80+ pounds of rock, 336 watts of lighting + 4 led moonlights, 4 power heads inside tank, extra powerheads, sand, magnetic cleaner, algea clips, fan, thermostat, salinity meter, nets, eyedroppers, food(mysis and spirulina shrimp, cyclops, daphnea, something that starts with r, large bottle of bio-plankton, red algea, high quality pellet), salt, large container of activated carbon and nitrate sponge, two timers, hose and bucket w/lid, chemicals(iodine , calcium , KH+PH buffer, Reef vital DNA, phosphate eliminator, nitrate eliminator, water cleaner), CRITTERS; leather coral, two larger types of polyps, long tentacled anemone, long spined urchin, pin cushion urchin, turbo snails, large snails, hermit crab, cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp, 4 green chromies, 2 clownfish, diamond watchman goby, dragon goby, mushroom rock, hammer coral, and soon possibly a toadstool coral. Also possible halogen balast thrown in. THE WHOLE WORKS

THanks a lot!
Dan

Depending on the price, both (or neither) could be a good deal. The 72 gallon bowfront sounds nice with the Tek lighting, ASM skimmer, sump, etc... and sounds like it should be a good setup. The equipment are all good. The only thing that you might need to buy would be standard replacement items (depending on age) such as new light bulbs and filters/DI resin for the RO/DI unit. The corals lighted should all handle the move really good, with the exception of possibly the Xenia and Brain Coral.

For the second setup, there are some items that would scare me away. I've never heard of a 80 gallon tank, lighting type unknown (but guessing PCs based upon wattage listed and most people would list the lighting type is MH or T5), "phosphate eliminator, nitrate eliminator, water cleaner" (none of which should be needed is using good water without overfeeding), "possible halogen balast thrown in" (halogen ballasts don't have much use for reef tanks), no mention of a sump or skimmer, etc.... For corals, the LTA would probably struggle with the move or end up wandering the tank for a while, the other corals should be able to handle the move.

Thanks for the info! I was kinda thinking that as well. So the 72 would be the one I would pick I suppose, it does need new bulbs, and new filters/DI resin for the RO/DI filter. He wants $1000.00 firm.

Do you think that is worth it or should I go new? How much do you really think I am saving by buying this setup? Also he says no room in sump to start a refugium.

Thanks a lot!

Dan
