Default TDS Reading

ro/di water. tds meter reads 2ppm sometimes 1ppm (from the tap is 48ppm). What is an acceptable reading for our tanks. Every test I have reads 0. Did not test for chlorine but doubt whether any is there. What do you use to test for chlorine or do you think what I have is good enough? Thanks

Many people say 0, but your TDS meter (even after calibration) may be off by a point or two, plus every time you put something in your fresh RO/DI water to check it or get water out, your adding dissolved solids. A lot of people say that you should be reading zero, I think that anything under 3 is good enough.

Do you use city water or well water? If you have well water then you shouldn't need to worry about chlorine. If you have City water, some cities add chlorine and others don't. In most states, your city is required to mail something out showing what is in your water. If you don't have a copy, you should be able to get a hold of it from someone within the city. If your city does add chlorine into your water, there are different filters that remove chlorine. I believe that places like The Filter Guys sell chlorine test kits and chlorine filters.

BTW - A tap water reading of 48 is really low. Congratulations. Most people are between 150 to 500. Mine is 168.

2-3 is acceptable, of course we aim for ZERO though

IMO anything 5ppm and less is OK

I will second The Filter Guys I bought my ro/di from them and will be my refills, etc from them when the time comes, good products and good service

My tap is 96ppm where I am

just to get your mind around the ppm(we all use it but not many know what it means). that means that 5 molecules of water(H2O) out of 1,000,000 have something that is wrong with them. 1.265 x 10^26 molecules in a gallon of water(approx 126,500,000,000,000,000,0 00,000,000 molecules per gallon of water). So now we divide that big number by 1,000,000, that gives us 126,500,000,000,000,000,0 00. Now multiply by 5....yeah thats how many bad molecules you have per gallon... The math lesson is now over.
