Default Live Rock Question

I am about 3 weeks away from setting up my new tank. But I have a chance to buy some live rock now at a great price. Can I store it somehow until I am ready to put it in my tank?

Sure, buy a rubbermaid container, like a 32 gallon brute, make some saltwater up, heater, powerhead and drop them in there. When your tank is step up, transfer the rock into your new aquarium.

Default Storing Live Rock

HI....re: Live Rock Storage. If you have an adequate supply of large non toxic plastic containers and suitable salt water. If the live rock you speak of was "cured" you could store it in these containers. Provide some water circulation and light. If the live rock you speak of is not "cured", go back to step one! Place the live rock in large non-toxic containers, remove dead/dying organisms, and continue curing the rock in these containers till the rock is ready for placement in your tank!

Actually if you haven't set up a tank yet, you can cure live rock in your tank. Helps with the cycle, so long as there are no inhabitants in the tank.

Ok, I followed your advice on live rock storage. The rock I purchased came out of an existing tank that the person was being relocated out of state. The rock seems to be doing great. There are urchins and anenome looking things and snails all over. I keep the salinity and temperature constant. I have good circulation. My tank is still about a week away from delivery/set up. The last couple days I have noticed a very faint smell from the rock. Almost like sulfur. It's very faint but it's there. Ideas? Recommendations?

That smell is your die-off, it's natural anytime you move rock from one place to another. That's why curing is always important, because it will give you a small cycle.
