Upgrading Questions... I am considering upgrading my 37 gallon FOWLR tank to a 72 gallon bow front tank or a 75 gallon rectangular tank. Either setup would be with an overflow/sump filter setup (which I have no experience with) for FOWLR at first with the intention of morphing into a reef. There are various things I am considering and have questions on:
1) Should I put an undergravel filter (just the plastic crate piece at the bottom of the tank under the live rock not with the uplift tube)? Someone once told me I should put that down, then some gravel, then the live rock, then some live sand to leave a space under everything for water but I've been reading on the forums that I only need the live rock and the live sand (no crate and no gravel (maybe some PVC pieces to help with the aquascaping)).
2) My 37 gallon tank uses a 350 Magnun canister filter. Should I also attach that to the new tank (just to increase mechanical fltration and waterflow)?
3) My 37 gallon tank uses a Red Sea Prizm skimmer, which I think works fine for the size (a bit loud). Does anyone recommend a skimmer (I'm thinking an AquaC Urchin Pro In-Sump Protein Skimmer w/ Drain Fitting + Mag-Drive 3 Pump or a Coralife Super Skimmer Needle Wheel - up to 125 Gallon, but I'd like other suggestions)?
I guess that's all the questions I have (for now). I'm just in the pre-planning phase, so I'm sure there will be more questions...Thanks! |
