Default Is it cycling or not?

Ive been online all afternoon. Ive had my 55 gallon tank set up for 3 weeks now and have been asking lots of questions. Thanks for all the help. But I have another one!!! I dnt think my tank is cycling I have lr and ls in it. also 2 damsels ( thru some bad advice from the lfs.) my readings never change , no ammonia, no nitrites, and just a little nitrate. I have brown algae (diatoms?) all over the sand now. What I want to know is will the cycle go faster, If i add a cocktail shrimp from the store . and can I do this with the live fish in there. It really seems like nothing is happening. It seems like it should be at least starting to cycle.Any help will be appreciated. thanks!!!

Perhaps it's already cycled? Diatoms usually appear after a tank has cycled, and usually those readings indicate no more cycling. Have you been monitoring levels the entire time?

Default Could I be this lucky?

tHANKS VOLITAN FA for the answer on is my tank cycled or not. I have been doing readings every other day. The only time anything ever spiked was about a week ago when the ammonia level went up to 0.25. I was under the impression that it was supposed to go up much higher. the nitrites never went past 5.0 either. The damsels never seemed stressed or anything and the banded coral shrimp is fine. He even shedded his skin. How will I ever know.?
