Default test kits

I recently bought a new water test kit from API...when i run the nitrate test i get about 40 mg/l...so i continue on with my obsession( term my wife uses to describe my new hobby ) and test the water with another kit from instant ocean and that one reads 10 mg/l. all my little inabitants look good..so I'm curious what could be going on....many thanks for your help...enjoy

This is why everyone says to use salifert test kits.. (cheaper kits are inaccurate)

Personally I say use sera, but salifert is right behind them...

API stinks, try Salifert.

I use SeaChem and so far me and my LFS (using Salifert) are pretty consistent. I'm not saying you'll have the same results, but I've yet to have much of a problem and I've been using SeaChem for over two years now. I do occasionally have problems, but that will happen with any test kit.

I like Fast Test or Marineland Aquarium Systems they are now called. Never have failed me even when it is out of date. tested with other kits and seems to be DNO!
