i am looking for my first fish. i want something that i can leave in the tank as i put in new fish. i would prefer not to have to pull it. any suggestions would be appericated thanks.

If I had to choose a first fish, it would be some sort of goby. Pretty much anything peaceful. Once you get the crazy open swimming territorial bozos, you are pretty much at your limit.

A goby is good, but sometimes they can be very territirial with other fish of the same body shape. In my opinion, I would go for a few blue/green reef chromis's. They like to school, they last a long time, they are easy to take care of, and most of all, they are very peaceful! (rlcline76...hate to tell you, but rules are ment to be broken )

Chromis are not bad to start with. I have never had too much of a problem with my gobies, though. I always thought it was the dottyback that beat up on comparable size fishies. Been there, done that.

If your tank is well established a sand sifting goby might be a good fish to get,but since almost all of there food comes from the sand bed,and since a new sand bed has very little for them to eat I would avoid this fish.You may get lucky with one that will eat brine shrimp or flake food but I would not bet on it.Also your sand bed needs time to mature and get its denitrification proccess going and a goby will prevent this from happening by eating all the things you need to maintain biodiversity.Just because a goby survives in a new tank does not mean he is happy doing it.
