I have heard, and tried, that if you turn all your filters, protein skimmers, uv's off, and scrape some of the algae off the rocks and let it float around in the wwater from your powerheads/pumps for about an hour it will settle down somewhere and start to grow there. Also sea urchins help spread it around!

if you alc/calk/mag are in balance the purple plague will come, its unavoidable, purple up is IMHO a waste of good money, the basic golden rule will always apply, if you cant test for it, dont do it!

put one piece with really good coralline growth right near a powerhead. Keep your DKH above 7, your calcium above 420, and your Mg above 1250 and it will cover the rocks in about a few months. Coralline is easy to grow before you put in a bunch of corals, after that comeptitive exclusion takes over.

oh yeah, its just a matter of time!!!

As the other guys already said, dont bother with purple-up, just make sure your calcium/alk/ and MG are in check and it'll come like a bad plaque

I dont have purple, i have pink. And in some areas light green. It depends where the light is strongest, thats where different colors will appear.
