Default sump questions

so, im making a 20 gallon sump out of two ten gallon tanks. The reason i am putting two 10's together is so i can fit them under my 55. I will be taking one sie of each 10 off and glue the thanks together that way. Also, i plan on having a 1/2 inch pvc pipe drain that goes from the 55 to to the sump. then the return pump will actually be my fluval 405 (360 gph). I am making my own overflow box fomr a small speciman container and a large speciman container and a little acrylic. The siphon will be with some PVC pipe elbows. Here are my questions:

1. Is the two 10's glued together with silicon sealer a good idea?
2. What size bulkhead should i get?
3. Is the DIY overflow box a plausible idea?
4. ANY RECOMENDATIONS ARE WELCOMED!

well i would go against the 2 glued tens, that just seems like an accidnet waiting to happen, my tank is 55 to and my bulkhead is 3/4 in and my overflow box is for about 300 gph. overflows are only like 80 bucks and it will save you the headach of trying to design something which may not look neat and clean. i would look for another tank to be you sump though.

Looks pretty good. I like the fact they have that hose to help remove air that might get entrapped in the siphon. Do NOT glue the tanks together - that's not going to work for the long haul. Get a 20 gal tank. For my 55 gal in the wall build I'm going to be using a 30 gal for the sump.

Looks like a custom build - only thing that might fit is a 15 gallon high. Think about taking off the back to get it in.

my tank is against a wall.....what if i get some acrylic, cut a peice 8" deep, 36" long. that will be the bottom. then i can make the sides about 16" high. Think that would do?

The plastic container will work. I have seen a lot of tupperware sumps. Some actually really nice. I did the same thing with the specimine containers it worked pretty well but the pvc U tube doesn't work well at all you never get all of the air out of it and I tried very hard to get that working right. I broke down and spent the 10 bucks on a 3/4 U tube and my DIY overflow worked fine. aA few months went by and I found a used one on E bay and all said and done I liked the one I made better. But I think I told you about that one when we discussed the shut offs and pvc.

I say go for the tupperware sump and post pics of your build. I'd like to see that plus others in your same position will benefit.
