Default Light bulb burn out

I have the small 8 gal biocube, about 1 1/2 weeks ago my white light burnt out, I have not had the tank a month so took the bulb back to the LFS, they said I must contact the manufacturer or I would void my warrantee, plus they did carry those bulbs. What do I do until I can get a replacement from the manufacturer? It still has the Actenic double bulb and the blue moon lights.

I'd just buy a bulb for it while you wait for the other, then you'll have a spare

If you have separate ballasts, it could be the balast. Switch the bulbs around & see which one doesn't light.

I would agree with glampka and test the ballasts. Bulbs are pretty much 99.999% perfect in their production.

OK guys, wonderful call, it is in fact the ballast and not the bulb. As the bulb had a gray area and a black spot, I assumed that was the problem. How long can the tank do well without the white light? Should I get a different fixture (like from a regular aquarium, 10gal) and put it ontop of this ones lid? Or will it be alright until the ballast can be replaced by the Manufacturer? I have noticed some of my live rock losing some of it's growth, but as the tank is not that old I figured it was natural die off. Should I change out the bulbs everyday so that they get the white and the actenic at least some parts of the day? Thanks for your advice. S

Take out the actinic & put the daylight bulb in. That will suffice until you get the new ballast.

Yes, the 10,000°K bulb is the bulb you want to use for your tank at the moment. Actinic bulbs are supplementary bulbs while the 10,000°K bulbs are your powerhouses.

Finally got a hold of the Manufacturer and they are going to send me a replacement ballast. Thanks guys so much for your comments and exspecially that call on the ballast as I would probably just thought it was the bulb, which is not replaced under warantee.

It took this long to get it, but yesterday I got the new ballast and bulb from the manufacturer. Actually called them to see if it had been shipped and they said it was on backorder, to my surprise it came the next day, they had already shipped mine. So now both lights are working plus the moonglows, so my mushrooms are fully opened and looking happy. This is just in time as I have Zoos coming Tuesday. Thanks again for all y'alls help. Susan
