Default Substrate

I have 15 pounds of crushed coral in my tank right now, and it has been running for about 4-5 weeks now. However, now i find that most inverts require a sand substrate. What's the best way to cnovert? add sand in? restart the tank?(please dont suggest this @_@) there are no fish in the tank yet, just a few turbos and hermits.

You're best bet is to take the CC out. Since the sand is finer, it will find it's way through the CC to the bottom of the tank.

If you don't have any livestock in the tank already, take the substrate out and replace it now. No point in adding live stock and risking swapping out the substrate later.

I agree with the above posts. After you remove your CC, add your sand VERY SLOWLY. It can be done. If you don't you will have a giant cloud that will get sand over everything and require later cleaning.

I gotta agree with everyone here.

Remove the CC and get some aragonite reef sand...

it'll pay off in the end !

I also agree. I changed from CC to LS before I added fish, I too had some snails and hermits present when I did the change. I took some tank water out and put the hermits and snails in that when the change was done.

The trick is to slit the bag all the way across one end put the whole bag in the tank and let it slide out gently. At least it wont look like you put the sand in with a blender.lol
