| while I can't see it. Red algae which may have bubbles in it and grow stringy is usually cyano. Watch your feedings and decrease the photoperiod while the tank cycles.

| it doesnt appear to have bubbles in it, however they may be micro, but i will take the advice and lower the light timer to a few hours, could it be the fact that it was red in the store due to an established tank? And I bring it home to a tank that is starting to cycle and it cant cope?

| It was only out of the water for about less than an hour.. maybe 45 minutes but it was wraped in a wet towel inside a moist bag, so it definatley didnt dry out... it is at the top of the aquascape though near the lights.. let me see if i can find the specs on the lighting.

| Could be Cyanobacteria. Dead water areas can propagate this. A dose of erythromycin succinate from your LFS will make the decision without question. One dose won't hurt at all. If it is indeed cyano...(it's called algae but it is indeed bacteria, hence the antibiotic erythromycin), it will disappear within hours. If your problem isn't the red slime nothing will change and you can move on to the next possible problem. Good Luck Mattie |

| Thanks soo much..

| Well cyano is red slime algae...it covers everything in a blanket of slime but can be easily scooped up. Best bet is to do your next water changes with RO water
