so, im thinking, would it make sense to get 2 12k bulbs, 2 actinic and then 2 6700k bulbs, all 65w over my 55g tank, that is 18 inches tall?

i know your not supposed to use the wpg except for a general guidline, but that would be just about 7wpg.

anyone have any opinions on that?

ok, so i will either do that or get a 96w ballast, and have a 6700k bulb in that.

henwayrob> I read that whole article before I purchased, great article and its what pushed me over the edge to buy, In terms of the ballast I dont have the issue, my light is very crisp and white. Not sure if the company changed anything but I wont proceed with any upgrades at this time, seems not all units have the issue, many posts advise everything seems fine, who knows, I'm sure a ballast upgrade would only improve.

I doubt highly i will have any bleaching of corals, my tank will run a full 1072 watt maybe 3
hours tops, I could always shut down the middle 250w MH light, 822 watts for a 125 will be fine.

So far my tank is sweet, I will be posting pics in the near future, my only concern is migrating my 30g reef into this tank, and yes I will hide the corals at first...

I can be the 9 watt per gallon guinea pig, a challenge i accept.

Peace

on the 760 watt fixture, has 2x250 mh the extra 260 watts are just pc atinics, which really primarily provide color for the aquarium (they do have some benifits of spectrum of light but not anywhere near the mh). 500w over a 75g is 6.67w/g, and for a sps and clam tank this is a good light amount. I have some lower light corals from before i got the hood but try to keep them low and partially shaded. as for a the 55 compared to the 75 they are the same depth (same par on bottom) but the hood is actually to wide (16"). yeah you can get to much light but everything is relative to the types of corals you are trying to have.
