Default I have no idea what this is

We have a 75 gallon w/fish, live rock, one anemone, featherdusters, and some small corals. We've had it for about 18 months. We have something growing out of one of our rocks that looked like a tiny black marble at first, and is hard. It has grown to the size of a small plum and looks as if it might burst. A second one is growing out now, beside it. I have no idea what it might be. We've looked at pictures but can't seem to come across anything that looks like this. Yesterday, I noticed 2 more growing at the other end of the tank beside our mushroom coral. Can anyone tell me what I've got? Do I need to get rid of it, or is it a good thing to have?

Does it have a green hue to it. Can we get pictures?

Sounds like it could be green bubble algae...Valonia variety...if so, could be bad news. They can spread quickly and choke out other plant and coral life. If you remove them (and you should), use a vacuum/siphon tube with a toothbrush attached while you have your siphon going. If it breaks open, it will release spores that will populate all over. It's doable. Or if you have some help, one person loosen the bubble with something (I use a toothbrush) and the other man the siphon.

Emerald crabs are reported to control bubble algae. However that may not always be the case.

I have heard from good authority right on RB that states that emerald crabs do not always eat the bubble algae; instead, they can feed on your corals and even helpless invertebrates.

Yes, it does have a green hue to it. I am unable to get a pic at the moment.
So...I need to get them out?

Yes, they need to come out. If not they will spread throughout the tank. Try not to break them in the tank when you're siphoning them out.

Or, if possible, remove the rock to which it is attached, then remove it when its out of the tank. This was suggested to me by celavie, another reefer.
