Those are good visuals specially the first two.

The DSB is funny...they took the D in DSB a little too far. I hope that's not to scale...LOL. Unless, of course that is the fuge, then that's OK. LOL

Tonz,
Skimer should go in the 1st chamber for 2 reasons - 1. delivers the dirtiest water to the skimmer for removal of proteins, etc & 2. allows any microbubbles to be eliminated before the water gets pumped back to the display tank.

Man...I wish I could do something about it now...There is no way possible to put my skimmer before my LR and algea. There is only one place for it and thats in the sump with the heater and the pump...Should I build a who new sump?

If microbubbles aren't a problem, I wouldn't go through the trouble unless you have nothing else to do.

Why not try this. From left to right. Compatment 1verflow entrance and skimmer.compartment 2:At least three sections of over under baffles(filled with live rock) to get rid of bubbles. compartment3:return pump/heater/other pumps.Compartment 4:refugium gravity fed from "T" on drain line 50/100 gph and flowing right to left back into the pump compartment.

That's what I have set up except for your compartment 2 (I have three baffles 1" apart but no LR --no space for it-- so I don't consider a separate compartment but I guess it could be "The Baffle Section"). Here it is during the leak test (at approximately the operating levels). From the right, which is backwards from how it sits under the tank, 1-Overflow entrance/skimmer section; 2-Baffle section; 3-Return/pump/heater/top-off/other pump section; and 4-Fuge (being fed directly from the tank via a "T".

LOL. Yeah, that's an easy way to make room for it... "Next time," I am going to have it set up so the skimmer dumps into the fuge so the ball of chaeto contains all the bubbles.

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!! Now THAT'S funny.

NOW I get it. Put the broken up LR in the baffles to stop the micro bubbles not the other way around! LOL

My only question on that (probably a dumb one) is will the LR in the baffles get all junky with shtuff without an easy way to clean them. I don't plan on having a sock once the rock cures and the tank cycles. Too much of a pain to go in and take it out to clean it every other day (it is far back behind the skimmer so not easy to get at plus they become nitrate factories).

So, what would be the easiest way to clean the LR rubble sitting in the baffles?

Well presumably your water has gone thru the skimmer and a filter sock.I dont think you will have to mess with it a lot if at all.And if you do need to clean it rinse it in a bucket of salt water.

Thanks a lot for the great responses guys! I'm working on more diagrams as we speak, I usually upload them to my visual encyclopedia, diagrams, illusrations -- iagram website daily. Any suggestions for more reef related ones? I'm planning on doing a calcium reactor, RO unit, auto-topoff, quarantine tank, etc. but any other suggestions would be Great!

Oh, I guess I should have made it more clear, but the DSB is in a refugium, and I modeled it after my own setup. I have a 40 gallon fuge, with about 8" of sand, so its basically half way up.
