Default What is this little guy? Oyster or clam of sorts..

Here are some pics of this fellow i took as i was gandering at my aquarium.. I havnt seen him opened up and wonder if he is even alive.. anyone know what he is? To me he looks like some jerk walked by my tank and dropped a pistachio nut shell in it hehehe but I know it isnt that.

Kevin, a nice bivalve of sorts...the exact kind, I don't know. I have a few that came in with some rock. I keep them out of the light as much as possible, they seem to like that much better.

what part does he play in the ecosysyem? Is he a filter feeder?

Filter feeder, indeed. I have these plus mini scallops that are on the liverock. So far so good. Probably will do well with phytoplankton in your tank if you end up getting corals to feed.
