Even Calcium, From what I have read can cause detrement to a tank if used incorrectly.

What should be stressed here is not quick fixes, but a solid natural way of doing things that are less risky to people new to the hobby. Also an established tank, is alot sounder and less fragile then a new one due to suffencient amounts of benifical bacterial and such.

For example a good way to reduce the amounts of algae in a tank are to reduce light cycle times. This is much safer to the contents of a tank then dumping algae killing chemicals into the tank. Now I am not suggesting turning the lights out all together but to reduce the daily cycle by an hour or two.

Please just remember that your words have power. People who are new to this hobby like myself are unsure of many things and can get ourselves into alot of trouble with the wrong advice.

Cyber you are my new best friend we think alike my man.

Well how else are levels supposed to fall in the right areas? Salt alone doesn't have enough amounts of the elements needed.

Those products are not algae killers either...calcium simply allows coralline to encrust and grow over the spaces where other algaes normally would.

reefnoob, thanks for the info on the calcium. I didn't know that coralline grows off calcium. Hopefully, one day I'll be able to offer advice to newbies. Right now, I'm just learning the ropes.

I see where I went wrong, I assumed ya meant algae killers being the chemicals I suggested not different ones like green algae remover or red slime remover etc. etc.

I wont say names Donna but just be careful who you listen too. Just because there name says master RB doesnt mean they know a lot. Just means they talk a lot. I have no doubt one day you will be the guiding light for newbies like us

You cant get rid of the algae until you determine its source, Could be overfeeding, to much light, NOT using ro/di water...
