Default Fission nano skimmer

So i took the leap and bought a Fission Nano skimmer for the tank. has anyone heard anything about these? Anyone have one.. the directions suck and im not sure how far down it needs to be.. it is already creating bubble but they dont flow over into the collection cup untill i submerge it too far into the tank for the bubbles to go back in the tank.. isnt it supposed ot sit in the cup?

Take it back wherever you got it. I bought one of these, hated it, never got it to work properly. Look at a nano remora hang on back skimmer if you want to get a protein skimmer, i've had good success with those for my nano's

ebaer, it says to add another sponge or something to catch the bubbles, where do you have yours at? how far is yours down in the water? I have mine up to the little foam circles.. do they need to be covered how far down is yours? can you take a pic of where the water level is on yours so i can have an idea where to have mine?

as you can see on the right is the skimmer.

i have it resting on the substrate. it barely fits in the tank, but it does.

i htink normally you would hang it.

I have one it is OK, But once I break all the plastic elbows on it while I am cleaning it, I am getting something else! I don't think it will stand the tests of time. Good enough until I move! I don't have a lot of bubbles and yes there is a sponge that catches the nasties.

During the beginning of my cycle. My protein skimmer was loadin up. It would fill up to the half way point with nasty black stuff almost every day. Though that should level off as it does its job and start to skim less requiring less emptying at least mine did. No it fills about half way every 3 or 4 days.

You said black crud? Oh mine is just a white foam.. So does that mean it isnt pulling anything from the water?

That usually means that you have it set with the skim level too high. If you reduce the level of the skim then less bubbles with make it over into the collection cup and it will then only collect nasty stuff. The collection should not be clear.

The water level is about an inch below the top cap.. should i raise mine up higher or bring it down lower?

I am not sure quite what you mean, but I am assuming this is a hang on skimmer. What you want it the skim level to be only about 1/4 to 1/3 the way up the inner tube of the collection cup.

it actually sits inside my biocube return chamber.. so basically it filters through the media then the trickle then the sponge then to the skimmer.. So hopefully im catching the garbage b4 it gets recycled back into the tank.

I'm telling you now, DO NOT crack those small elbow pieces. It doesn't take much, trust me. I am finding that those are almost impossible to replace through Current, your LFS...
