Default my clowns are dying help

2 days ago i added a new current dual bulb 65w each lamp for my mushrooms and bubble tips. the only new plants i added were culerpera. my maroon clowns stopped eating. they both died within two days. I tested the water. ammonia came back zero, nitrites zero and ph of 8.0. the snails and serpent starfish is okay. I got another clown yesterday and it almost died this morning until i put him in a fish only tank then he survived. what is wrong with my reef tank is it the lighting. the tank is an odd size. it is a cube 24 inches high by 24 inches wide. Does anyone have any ideas please help. thanks

Not the lighting. What is the salinity of the water? PH is a little low but not that much...what test kits are you using?

I've read that caulerpa algae can release spores into the tank (I think) that will rob the water of oxygen. I suggest doing an immediate 5% water change, and perhaps another tomorrow.

Have you checked the temperature of the water since adding the lights. Depending on what it was before, system variables and what not it may have driven the temp up to a point that it is cooking them (Do you have a canopy)?

I would also agree that this could very well be a temprature related issue. You didn't change the salinity with a water change or anything so the temp is where I would be looking. Wouldn't expect it to be the plants you put in. are there other fish in the tank that are living?

check for an electrical leak in the water.

check the salinity, temp, and PH. These are usually the causes of rapid fish death. Good luck man, sucks to lose a fish.
