Default this is what im lookin at.

I'm planning on re-doing the lighing of the tank. I am thinking 150-200 watt MH with 14k. output, and another 150-200w mh but this one for blue actincs. Also how about getting them in retro-fit? I dont want to heat up the aquarium too much, any ideas on how far away to keep the lights? the tank is 21 3/8 inches deep.

about a foot above the tank? So the 200 watts wouldent reach the bottom, they are only suppoed to reach i belive 24 inches max. I think that would leave 9 inches tword the bottom not getting a full-blast.

no, the light can travel through the air much better than water. so you cant really count the inches it will reach until the light hits the water. It also depends what kelvin rated lights you will be getting. the blue spectrum reached MUCH deeper than the full and 10000k and higher.

14k is already well into the blue spectrum and the point at which some people stop useing flourescent actinics.Any way its the point at which actinics are no longer needed. If you have to use mh use 2 14k's and 175 watts should be enough at that depth.

IMO Halides 175 Watt 10k will give you a bright white light that should be kept 10 inches above the water line and will definatly reach the bottom of the tank. As far as Actinics I would use 96 watt pc's true blue. You will have a great shimmer in the water and a bright reef that you can keep sps and any corals you like.

There are a number of companies making clip on fans as well. I suggest don't have them blowing across the surface of the water but have them drawing the air up and away from the tank. Seems to work better.
