well, if you have a lid on the tank, you can take that off, or open it. get a small fan blowing across the surface of the water.

i think that should do the trick, oh, and also if you have a heater in there, take it out.

if the tank is 85 at its peek, that is not that bad. 85 is acceptable. might be on the high side though.

Yeah, I don;t know much about cubes but something is wrong. How long are you keeping your lights on? How hot is it in the house (seriously)?

still no answer to the temperature in the room...

my aquapod stays 3-4° over room temp stock and 6-7° over room temp with a second pump added.

A skimmer won't cool the temp any. It will actaully raise it a bit if it is an in the tank skimmer. The pump inside the tank will give off heat if you are going to use a nano skimmer. 85 shouldn't kill the fish. If you keep your room at 72-75 and your tank is reading 85, my guess is there is a temperature fluctuation that is contributing to the stress of the fish (best guess). Take a reading every few hours to make sure when the lights go out, the temp doesn't plummet.

We don't let our inside temp get any higher than 83. My tank peaks at 84 during the day with no a/c (triple digits outside) and is usualy a constant 82 if we keep the house cooler around 80. If your parents actually allow you to put the thermostat at 72 to 75 then there is something else wrong here. There is no way your tank should be running that high if your room is that cold. Are your fans working? Use a real thermometer (mercury).

I have the 29 gallon Biocube as well. You need to find the source of your heat, you say it is all stock. My house stays a constant 75-78 my tank is level at 78 even with a skimmer. You may have a faulty pump. Take your readings in the back left tank where the sump pump is. Is your tank near your window? What part of the US do you live?

Like Tonz said - check the thermometer. If you know someone who works in a lab, see if you can borrow one from them.

I have the 12 gallon aquapod, my temp also jumped up to 85-86 when it was triple digits here in Oregon. The ice bag trick worked over the course of a few days, but you have to repeat the process several times (even more so in the 29 gallon). How many days has it been so far? Don't spend $ on a chiller now until you identify the exact cause of the raise in the temp, if there is a malfuntion then a chiller is just a band-aid. How long have you had your tank? What is in it?
