Default Moving Livestock to New Tank

At the moment I'm still waiting for the floors to be refinished so I can start moving the contents of my old tank to my new 56g Reef Ready Tank.

I just saw on a different thread that you should add your corals before your fish...

How should I go about moving the fish, corals, rock and sand? The current tank is in the spot where I want my new tank, so I don't know if I can just move it around.

Tell me if this makes any sense:

1.) Set up new Tank adjacent to old (and ugly) tank
2.) Add live rock to new tank
3.) Buy some live sand (or use the same sand from the old tank?)
4.)Cycle through
5.) Add some hermit crabs from old tank?

What should I do after that? My worry is that we have to move everything out of the family room in order to do the floors. If the new tank is just sand and rock I bet I can just take out some water, save that, and move the tank around gently, but I don't know what to do for the mature tank.

Help!

leave the mature tank as is for the moment, cycle the new tank, after that use 5 gallon pails, rubbermaid containers etc whatever you need break down the old tank, move your new tank to new location, use water from your old tank to refill new tank, then acclimate your fish and corals just like you would new ones, before placing in new tank.

oh when you drop the water level in you new tank make sure your live rock isnt exposed to the air for any length of time, preferably no time.

How should I move the sand? I do have a watchman goby but as far as I can tell it doesn't really use the sand. It goes for the rocks instead.

While I'm cycling the new tank should I use some live sand from the old tank or just buy all new sand?

I hear alot of people say use the same sand as it is already full of the good stuff. Personally I would use the same sand,or at least some of it...

You always move livestock in this order:

sand/rock
snails or crabs
fish
corals
anemones, etc.

Check your PH level and try to match the current level in your old tank.
