Default Transporting Fish

well since this is the general thread or seems to become. I have a question about transporting fish. i am going to destin florida in about two weeks. i want to bring some live rock and live sand from the ocean. also i can only imagine how good the lfs are there. so i live in middle tennessee which is about 7 hours away. is there anyway the fish and live rock/sand can make it?

I would like to know the answer to this question, too. I have never transport any fish for a long distance.

Unless you plan on getting the rock & sand from miles out, forget bringing that back. Generally, near shore sand & rock can be a problem since that's where most of the pollution is at. When bringing back fish the key is to put a minimum amount of water in the bag & have a lot of air space. The other option is to keep them in a bucket with a battery operated air pump. Also check with State law to see what if anything you can take out of the water.

You should definitely look into that further. Most LR off the coastal portions of Florida are protected and it is illegal to take it. Plus you don't want LR or Sand from their for the reasons that Gary said.

As for transporting fish in addition to what Gary said for longer drives I have read that it is a good idea to use straight O2 instead of air for the fish bag this allows for a better gas exchange and oxygenation of the water.

I woild also like to know this question.

Even if you cant get LR, you would be able to get some LS and maybe a few small stars or crabs, maybe even a little fish.

but definately look at the laws first.
