I would have all n place and running except maybe skimmer or atleast till sand dust settles down.

One way to cut down on this to fill tank and cut corner off LS bag pintch it lower it to bottom and disperse and then gently smooth out with fingers.......

or

partially fill bottom of tank enough to cover sand and then place a plate type dish in tank and wait for sand to settle and then pour water on to plate

I am also new to this..... Im sure you will get some good advice and someone correcting me .

Good Luck To You.

I just placed crushed coral in mine and with the protein skimmer I was able to get the water clear again to see my rocks in about 5 hours so I could go ahead and put the fish back in! I'm also a newbie but all I can say is READ, I've read about 5 books this past month since I started and my knowledge has more than doubled.

When i put my sand in it was cloudy also i ran the filter an it cleared up overnight dont know how long it really took b/c i was going to bed anyway after all day of running to the lfs and setting up the tank. Setting up the tank took alot longer than i thought it would but loved every bit of it

it will help have a cheap hang on filter packed with filter floss. a polishing pad would work really well also. this will remove most of the debris from the water and prevent them from makin home on the bottom. if they do that there just going to be a problem later on and you will be in the same boat! for every water change and maintanence day i use the hang on filter. it doesnt need to be established because you have other means for that but it does really work good. and again it just needs to be rated for your size tank to work quickly, but even if its not you will still notice a big difference!
