| Kids' playsand is a definite no-no. It usually contains silicates which you don't want in your tank. CC has a large particle size which allows detritus & all sorts of other garbage pass through it. Think back to a freshwater tank with a ug filter - remember how crudded up the gravel got & you had to vacuum it? Same thing happens with CC. CC can also abrade the underside of certain sand sifting live stock. Do yourself a favor & go with sand. It doesn't all need to be LS - you can get marine sand & add some LS to it to cut costs.
