Default Plenum or Deep SandBed?

I can't decide on which system to choose for my tank... Does anyone have any experience on either or both? I've read many articles on both, and it seems they both work great. What about RDSB? I am considering filling up most of my sump with about a foot of sand as I've heard it reduces your nitrates a lot and provides more space for the little critters in the sand to grow. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

You found the same thing in your research that I did. What made me decide on a dsb is the fact that they both require a minimum of 4 inch's of sand to be efficient. The plenum system requires additional frameing under the sand that will be a minimum of 1 inch in height. In a 65 gallon tank that is 2.29 gallons of tank space.Or 2.29 gallons of precious water volume. For that reason I am going dsb. rdsb=remote deep sand bed.A sand bed outside the main tank. Some people keep refugiums outside the tank stand as a second display tank almost. If you had a refugium/dsb of about 2/3 to 3/4 of your tank volume with good algea growth you could actually go skimmerless. Not a large sump with part of it a dsb/refugium but an entire tank devoted to to it.
