hey everyone hows things? I just bought a 55 gal with oak stand at a garage sale today for 100 bucks! they were 375 at lfs so im gonna add the lr and ls from my 40 gal or what i thought was 40 is really only 35 after some calculations. so anyhoo Im gonna use all the h2o from my small tank and lr and live sand as well.question is can i just mix up 20 gal of new saltwater and add my livestock? o ya got a new lion and longspine urchin yesterday too they are gonna go in with eel and hermit and a bunch of snails.

i would mix the salt a day ahead of time and get it as close to your other water as possible. make sure you have everything running and have extra water left over for an emergancy if there is one. add every chemical that is in your other water to the make-up water also so your parameters match. test later that day and the following days to make sure your still in check. you shouldnt have any problems as long as your adding all the same LR and LS. your water will be a bit dirty so if you have a form of mechanical filtering i would pack that with floss and change daily until clear.

I wouldnt add the critters so soon to your new tank. How long has your 35 gal been set up and how much sand do you have in it? That sand can have a lot of bacteria in it that can be released into the water if its deep or a couple years old. I say get new sand to mix with the old and let your new tank sit while testing for amonia and Nitrates and make sure all water params are good. I know this is going to make some inconvenience for you but I always figure better safe than sorry.

I think you need to read the thread that was just posted in another forum. Does any of this sound familiar?

Green Water Trouble, PLEASE HELP!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can please help me out. I have a 46 gallon, transfered from a 20 gallon about 1.5 - 2 months ago. Since switching tanks I added about 25lbs more live rock (total 50lbs.) About 2 wks later my tank started turning green, treated it with a bacterial medicine for a couple of weeks, then I did a complete water change in the tank. 1 week later, 3 weeks to dated the water is right back green. I've been treating it with "Cycle" and "AlGone" for the past 2 weeks. Today I changes about 10 gallons of water.

DON"T know what to do anymore, losing confidence in this tank.....

Can anyone please help me
