Default Refugium or set up smaller tank?

Ok - now for the next step - I'm not there yet but have to get prepared. With a 220 gallon tank to fill, would it make more sense to buy a 10 - 20 gallon tank to use as a refugium and follow the set up steps by Ryan - ie, use water from the 220 gallon to fill and QT fish and etc.. OR should I get a refugium? Any ideas on difference in price?

With a 220, I'd set up a 55 as a refugium/sump. If you want to set up a QT tank, it should not be plumbed to the display tank. A 10 - 20 gal would be a good choice for the QT tank depending on how many fish you'll have in there @ any 1 time & their size.

OK so Refugiums are plumbed to the display tank (makes sense - they share the same water etc.. )- do they need their own lighting? (my sump is in a cabinet under the tank - kinda dark) and qt's are (obviously) independent...
If I take pictures and post them can you tell me if what I have would work??

Its a good price considering the free shipping

For a better understanding of sumps/refugiums check out: Melevsreef.com | Acrylic Sumps & Refugiums

Yes, they require their own lighting but it doesn't have to be anything fancy.

We like pictures!!!
