Default Water

I am new to the salt water hobby and just beginning to start an aquarium.

Two Questions:

1. A friend has a large salt water system (600+ gallons) and is going to do a water change. Would it be to my benefit to take approximately 30 gallons of his water to start my 50 gallon tank?

2. If so, what is a good way to transport 30 gallons of water.

Water change is going to happen on 8/16 so your immediate response would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
David

Provided the water isn't too highly contaminated with ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, phosphates, etc. it is fine.
5 gallon buckets are a good idea. Small plastic drums as well.

I would not do it.Should your friend have any latent pathogens in his tank you will bring them home to yours. Why risk it to save a few dollars.

You'd be better off if he'd give you some live sand or a rock or two to begin the cycle and seed your sand.
