Default question about water movement and painted PVC

I will be setting up my tank in a few day and just need a little final help. I have a 24 gallon DT and will have a sump. I am hoping to split my return line and have one at each back corner with a pump large enough to get good water movement from the return only. I would like to keep as much stuff out of the tank as possible so i am trying to not use power heads. Do you think this will work and is there any kind of paint that would be safe to use on the tips of the PVC that will be in the the water background on my tank is flat black and i would like to have the returns match.

You want adequate water movement so you have no dead spots in the tank. IMO you won't get adequate flow from just 2 return points.
Take a look at this thread about spray bars & if you have any questions you can PM JV - he'll be more than willing to explain it all to you.

As far as painting goes, Krylon's Fusion is made to stick to plastics. Not sure how it will hold up if the piping is underwater. Probably don't have to paint it since it would eventually get covered by coralline algae.

Glampka thanks for the advice on adding more return points and the link was help full. I got some ideas i may try from it,

any one else have advice on painting the pvc inside the tank, or what about using some kind of clear tubing, does lexan cause a problem in the tank. I dont see it used much and i know it is strong. I know it will be covered with coralline algae sooner or later but i would still like to not have it stand out so much till then.

Forget using clear tubing - the inside will start growing algae & will be a bear to have to take apart & clean.

You might be able to do something with black flexible tubing from Lowes or Home Depot. You will have to change some of your fiitings to a barb connection though. Just a thought. Its the same as the clear tubing only in black.

so the black tubing would be ok because it will let less light in am i right in saying that? if so i think that might be what i am looking for. and how does the flexible tube work as the return outlet i would think it might be hard to keep it pointed where you want it or is it not THAT flexible?

Very flexible but if you want to go this route you will probably need to use some fittings to get the tubing turned the direction you want. Like I said, just a thought. You might have to be creative.

that is what it sounds like, i am now thinking that i might go with 2 smaller return pums instead of 1 big one and split both pumps in 2 or do one as a spray bar. once i get my tank set with the sump under it i think i will have a better idea of what will work best and i may just have to go with the white or gray PVC and let the algae grow on it
