I haven't priced chillers but from what I have looked into Aquarium supplies for your tropical fish tank, saltwater fish tank, saltwater aquarium fish, freshwater aquarium fish & reef aquarium. Aquarium filters, aquarium lighting, aquarium tanks, protein skimmers & more for your reef tank. and DrFoster and smith have good prices. There are a lot of online stores so shop around and check their shipping costs. I have a 220 and was recommended to get a 1/2 hp chiller - I haven't upgraded my lights yet so I dont need it but check with the experts here about what hp would be best...

John, could you humor me for minute? Dont know anything about your setup but that temp sounds high for power compacts. No glass tops on the tank? What other power heads do you have in the tank/sump? What are you using for a return pump/pumps? Where do you live? What is the temp set at in the room where your tank is and last, I would double check your thermometer and make sure its working properly. Maybe you have already looked at all this and if so...GET THE CHILLER!

If you get one I would like to know what it is and well it works. Thanks!

I was just going to say the same thing...Your rocking a temp of 86 and you are using just PC. We need more info. I would turn your heater all the way down then set your temp to 78. And just see what happens

my tank mostly stays around 80 degrees....but if im not home, i have my windows shut (i live in north jersey) because i live on the first floor and dont want people walking away with my plasma...lol...when the windows are open the temps stay normal, but there are times when im working that the temps can rise if i work a double or something....I have 5 maxi jet 900 powerheads in the tank, and in my sump i have two mag drive 1200's pushing the returns...i also have a 36watt uv light and i have a mag drive 600 i think pushing the skimmer...like i said , i came home a couple of times to the tank up to 85 degrees...so i opened the canopy top and the bottom doors on the tank and opened a window...the tank immediately cooled down...but im worried when i get the halides, its gonna really be getting hot in there, i dont feel like leaving the ac running on all day..but if i have to, i will...

Those Maxi jets use a lot of wattage. I would start there. You also may want to get a fan blowing across the top of your water all the time. Leave the canapy open whenever you dont have guest over. Also you can go to home depot and buy window locks for your windows. Its a wingnut that makes it so you can open the window more then you want. Ie 5 inches? Maybe 4. If they want in there going to get in...

I bought a chiller here:
Global Aquarium Supply Current Aqua Euro USA
With a tank your size, you will need a much larger one than I (1/10 HP). I mostly got mine to stop the temp swing, and keep the temp steady.
