My alk is at 16 my ph varies between 7.85 and 8.29 from night to day. All other tests are right on and stable. Will this alk reading cause any problems

sg,
what test brand are you using?
Are you buffering for anything? What is your Ca looking like?

If you are buffering with something that is for Alkalinity and claims to magically raise your pH...STOP. Do a few water changes with no buffer.
