Default Help! Heater stuck!

I set up my new 12 gallon Aquapod last night. My heater is a new 100 watt Hydor Theo. Live sand and (well-cured) rock and a few snails were added. This evening, I noticed the temp was 93! It's probably been at this temp at least 10 hours. Are the live rock, coraline algae, and organisms in the sand now dead? I need some good, quick advice, please!

Unplug the heater, open the tank up, get a fan to point at the surface and let the temp get down.

You should be okay, glad you didn't add any fish yet!

Obviously unplug the heater. If you want to do a 10-20% water change to bring the temps down a few degrees then go for it but I wouldnt try and lower it to say 82-84 degrees (safe zone) all at once. Be patient and see what tomorrow brings. You might be alright. Good luck and keep us posted!

Do what Ryan and Jim suggested.

I also suggest only using a 50 watt heater from here on out. If it were to do what the 100 watter did, it'll take longer to get it that hot...

you may also want to consider getting a plastic baggy and put some ice cubes in there and seal hte bag. then let the sealed bag float on top of the water.
