Default Making a spray bar - need some advice

Tank is 96x24x24. Overflow in the middle.
1. Should I use one continuous spray bar or "divide" tank in half and have a spraybar on either side of the overflow?

2. use 1" pvc or 3/4"?

3. What size pumps should I use? I have 2 1100gph (one in each corner) and 4 directionals

I plan on having a DSB and I would like to have a lot of live rock covering the entire back from top to bottom, how do I make sure i have water flow?

I hope to design the aquascape to have a few bay areas...

Jack, jump in here anytime to correct/confirm/modify...

1) I would do a continous spray bar with two pumps, the same Jack and Sanjay did on Sanjay's tank, but I would place the pumps in the middle right next to the overflow so they are not that visible from the sides. If you use one continous bar with two pumps, should one pump fail the full tank still gets flow. Just make sure you are able to test the pumps separately once in a while. Turn one off and make sure there is flow then do the same with the other.

2) You should be fine with 3/4" pvc.

3) What are those 1100 gph pumps? RIOs? If so, you can use those. They work great.

If you put the spray bar in the back behind/underneath the live rock you'll get the flow you need. Just make sure have then holes pointed in the right direction. I have: most at a 45 degree angle, some going straight up, a few going straight forward and a hand full going straight back (against the glass). You do that, and you'll get the right flow.

I use two, one on each side of the overflow channel. I think its just a matter of what is convienent for your setup.

Yes, it's really what you want to show, or not show. I just ran my spraybar across the back of the tank with holes pointing toward the front of the tank, and straight pointing toward the back side of the LR. I only used a 40 gph PH. It seems to work fine.

You might also want to take a look @ what Cyberjester did with his tank - you can plumb it right to your return pump:

I have Rio 2500 pumps on both sides. I would use 3100s on either sides. Also use 3/4" pipe so that the pressure's not lost. The center piece should not be going as high as is in mine. Have the holes on the bottom piece facing more towards to bottom and not up so that the bottom is always flushed out well.
That's it do this and you have a great spray bar.

Jack will provide more input when he sees your thread.

Goodluck!

Thanks Sanjay - I was looking at Rio's, I think that's the way to go. I am leaving Wednesday for a short vacation, but by the following weekend I hope to have some pipe put together. I will post pictures when I have it laid out for final approval

RIO 2500 Works well with 3/4 PVC it comes with all the parts to screw PVC right on the pump. Please keep in mind that spraybars should alway's be closed system in tank so as not to drain the tank in the event of a power failure

Here is a link to some Plans & Specs

I really like Cyberjesters Plan as well it provides place to stack your rock work on too

It is very easy to insure you don't drain the tank should you elect to plumb it to your return pump. Simply drill a small hole in the return line just below the water level. You will siphon out a little water but once the water reaches the hole the siphon is broken.
