Depending on what you plan on keeping, you may want to stay away from anything that uses Bio-Balls... They're OK for a fish only system, but they'll be nitrate factories which you don't want on a reef system... As far as not having a drilled tank, you can use some HOB overflows as stated... Big D

i would say the sump but what do i know, i'm still a noob... the better filtration tho, the less water changes (and u know they're a pain in the ass)... the overflow box is a llittle bit of an eyesore but well worth it... as for the bio balls, i've heard a ton for it and a ton against it for a reef tank, i guess it's all about independent experiences... i do know that the more filtration media (i.e. bio balls, spoges, or foam) the more u run the risk of higher nitrates... but with a good cleaner crew, good bacteria and watching food consumption this shouldn't be a big problem, and if it is, take the dam balls out...

A sump is basically just a place to externalize all the equipment for your tank. The water gets into the sump with an overflow siphon box (if you're not drilling) and is returned with a return pump.

| i ran a canister for two years with no problems. i was very observant on parameters, and water changes, but that should be a given. i finally want to a sump just for looks, no exposed skimmer, heaters etc.... best bet is go with what your comfy with first, then move forward as you go. all in all both were nice but now i like the sump for maintance reasons but be careful when you make the change

Dont mind me but what you have soonerfn will work.BUT go with 3 power head's and clean that canister filter every week along with weekly water change's and you'll be fine..My friend has 2 of these on his 125 reef..The only thing i dont like is the tiny air bubble's it spit's out.... Good luck Brian
