Default reactor differences

What is the difference between a calcium reactor and a kalkreactor? Is one better than the other? I was looking at them on marinedepot and noticed the kalkreactor doesn't use carbon dioxide and is a lot cheaper. If you don't have a reactor do you just add a supplement for calcium?
