Default new to saltwater

I am thinking about starting a saltwater aquarium up. i have had freshwater systems for about 10yrs now. I understand the basics of the saltwater system, but dont know alot about them. I was looking for some useful info. I would like to start a 40-60 gallon tank. and that is as far as i have gotten. I know i will need salt, heater, different lights, and the basics. what i dont know is about sumps, chillers and different things i have read on the internet. I also would like to make it as easy as possible as i will be doing this hobby with my wife and young son. i also dont wannna go bankrupt with it either. just looking for some help.

Hmmm I would suggest googling all the items that you are questioning, there are a lot of various types of systems that you can put together from fish only, fish only with live rock, reef systems and those are only what you keep in it, let alone how the system is set up. Various types of setup don't even have a sump or mechanical filtering, some use all kinds of filtering and skimming. There are may ways to set up a marine tank. Keep reading everything you can find on the internet (and take most of it with a grain of salt, there are just as many oppinions out there as there are ummm fish, yeah fish!)

Your best investment will be your skimmer!!! As far as not going broke, it's best to try to find some used equipment that someone is either upgrading or getting out of the hobby... Here's a link to my 180, almost all of the equipment I used in this build was used except for the lights...

HTH... If you need any help, shoot me a PM...
