Default Quick water question (salinity)

Just need a little clarification, for my own good. All of the online research I see says that I should keep my specific gravity at 1.025. Every fish store I go to always tells me that I should lower it to 1.022-1.023 when I tell them my water stats.

Why the discrepancy? What is the advantage of 1.025 vs 1.022?

If you are runing a fish only tank you can get away with1.019 to 1.022 but corals like it more around 1.024 or 1.025 and the fish do fine there to. but my be more pron to disease . Or at least that is what I have read. Mybe some of the experts can tell you better. As I'm new also.

Yes, some one else please chime in on this. I am just starting my 75 gal reef mix tank and would like to know more on this as well. If I need to raise my salinity, now is the time I need to do it before I add any more items to my tank. Right now I only have two starter Damsels and a LS urchin and keep it at 1.022 as best I can. All my LFS have told me never to let the salinity go over the 1.023 or you can kill everything in the tank, yet I spoke with petsolutions.com & liveaquaria.com today and they said all their tanks were around 1.025 and should always try to stay at 1.024 with little fluctuation. Thanks
