Default Feather duster question

I put a feather duster in my tank today and my nass. snails went nuts. they attacked it like it was a steak dinner. can I keep them in the same tank or will the snails eat them?

I have feathers with my nass snails no problem. I dont know if you shouldnt keep them together or not but mine live amongst each other. Are they "eating" the dusters of are they eating the crap that is on them? Im not sure what you ment by attacking them.

It sound like you got a bad duster. When you pick one wave your hand over the tank the slightest Shadow should cause the feather duster to pull in. A healthy one will not stay out for a snail to get it. I have crabs get on the tube all the time and the duster retracts quick.

I didn't get to pick it out. It was from LiveAquria. I added it to get my order total up so they would ship my flame hawk fish.

Ed is right. I've seen my nassarius snails go after other snails and so forth. It means that the duster was ailing and your snails are well fed. Sorry for your loss.

it may not even be dead, sometimes the duster will just lose the crown when stressed, especially after shipping. they will re-grow a new one ina few weeks. keep it in the tank and see what happens. feather dusters are incredibly hardy and will survive many marine settings and water parameters.

Yeah, but nassarius snail do not normally swarm around anything healthy. They are not evil violent reef snails.

My feather duster lost a crown as well, not sure why. Give it a couple of days and if you notice any movement with your feather duster when you get near it, it is still alive. Mine took about 2 weeks before it started coming out again.
